The Cup!

The passage from Minerva Reef to Opua, New Zealand was the first big sailing challenge in a while -- 1000 miles in duration, generally upwind, and much colder than the tropics.  While the photographer generally went to sleep in N.Z., our visit was memorable.  We thoroughly enjoyed the coast between the Bay of Islands in the north and Auckland, especially the spectacular Great Barrier Island(s).

The America's Cup was the center of attention in NZ in late 2002 and early 2003.  Kiapa had a front-row seat (pinch me) with a slip inside the viaduct, a few yards from the NZ and Alinghi compounds.
